1907
Establishment of AMWI
AMWI officially established.
First President: Dr. Annette Benson (British doctor, Superintendent of Cama Hospital).
First five Presidents were British.
1916
AMWI recognized the need for trained nurses.
In 1916 Lady Hardinge Medical college was founded staffed entirely by women and having women students only. The need for good nurses were also recognised by the association as early as 1909.

1929
Dr. Jerusha Jacob Jhirad became in charge of Cama Hospital.
The association took up work in maternal and child welfare in 1929. Notable work was done in social hygiene , family planning and venereal diseases.
1937
First Indian President
The first President was Dr. Annette Benson a British lady Doctor who was also the Superintendent of the Cama Hospital. The first five Presidents were all British Doctors. In 1937, the first Indian Lady Doctor to Become President was Dr. Dossibai Dadabhoy.
1970
Cancer Detection Centre established in Kolkata
The association , during the diamond jubilee celebration decided to start free clinics. Cancer detection centre at Cama & Albless hospital was started in 1968 and in Kolkata in 1970 by the donation of its NRI member Dr Hemprova Ghosh Medonald.
Many woman drs devoted there life and served the organisation selflessly with DEVOTION AND SINCERITY.
The Moto of AMWI is “ DUTY AND DEVOTION”.
2007
AMWI Centenary Celebration at Raj Bhavan
Under the President ship of Mumbai branch, Dr Mandakini Megh celebrated the Centenary on 27th January 2006, in prestigious Raj Bhavan with grand ceremony in presence of his Excellency Governor of Maharashtra. Many Govt dignitaries attended the Program. Women drs were felicitated.
